Service Learning Advisory Council (SLAC)

Charge:

The Service Learning Advisory Council serves to advise and assist in developing and supporting the use of service learning on campus.

Appointment:

Operating Procedures:

A vice-chairperson will be elected during the first meeting of the fall semester.

The committee will meet monthly during the long semesters, beginning in September. Additional meetings will be called as needed.

Copies of minutes and/or reports will be forwarded to the Office of the Provost, supplied to council members and posted on the website.

Chairperson shall assume the following duties in August. The chairperson shall call the meetings, preside at the meetings, cause there to be minutes and agendas for meetings, consult with deans and others regarding their appointment of members, keep a roster of members and perform other duties, as deemed necessary by the council.

Vice-chairperson shall assume the following duties in August. The vice-chairperson shall serve in absence of the chairperson, serve as chair of the “S” designate committee, serve as liaison to faculty and students and perform other duties, as deemed necessary by the council.

Chairperson:

The council is chaired by the associate director of the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center.

Membership Code:

  1. One (1) member from each of the colleges except the College of Arts and Sciences shall have two (2).  Interdisciplinary programs not reporting to a college shall have one (1) member each. (Two-year appointment)
  2. One (1) member from the Graduate School (Two-year appointment)
  3. One (1) member from the School of Law (Two-year appointment)
  4. Two (2) student members: one undergraduate, one graduate. The student members will be representatives from the Student Government Association. (One-year appointment)
  5. One (1) representative from the Office of the Provost, appointed by the provost, ex-officio
  6. The associate director of the Teaching, Learning and Technology Center shall serve as chairperson, ex-officio
  7. Representatives from Faculty Senate and the Teaching Academy, ex-officio
