Dave Richman

Dr. Richman is the Jere Lynn Burkhart Professor and Chair of the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research. He received his Ph.D. in school psychology and minor in applied behavior analysis from the University of Iowa, and he completed a research postdoctoral fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Richman has previously been on faculty at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, University of Maryland Baltimore County and the University of Illinois. His areas of research include: (a) assessment and treatment of aberrant behavior, (b) phenotypic expression of genetic disorders correlated with intellectual disabilities and severe behavior problems, and (c) family resiliency, parenting stress and familial quality of life. Dr. Richman's vision for the Burkhart Center is to develop an internationally recognized research center while simultaneously aligning the research agenda with community needs for families with children with autism. TTU is currently preparing to move forward with plans to build a new wing of the College of Education to house a full-inclusion laboratory preschool, an outpatient clinic to provide assessment and treatment for behavior problems and consultants to study the efficacy of instructional programs for individuals with autism across the lifespan.
