Diego Pascual y Cabo is an assistant professor in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures. His research examines two understudied topics in heritage speaker Spanish, namely (i) argument-structure innovations and (ii) heritage speaker competence of properties that lie at the syntactic-pragmatic interface. Such line of investigation has obvious broader pedagogical implications (e.g., to know which domains of grammar are more susceptible to being different or problematic, and, therefore, showing areas for specific pedagogies to focus on), as well as other implications for issues related to language maintenance in the US, where the number of immigrants is not expected to decrease.
