Maureen Qualia

Maureen Qualia is an instructor in the Department of Plant and Soil Science. An experienced winemaker and production manager, Qualia will specialize in enology. Qualia stepped into her new post on Sept. 1. Based at Texas Tech’s Fredericksburg campus, Qualia will develop and teach the university’s new winemaking certificate program. She also will teach undergraduate enology classes in Lubbock via distance education and offer technical workshops for Hill Country wineries. Following a year abroad in northern Italy, Qualia received a bachelor’s degree in nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in enology from California State University, Fresno. Prior to joining Texas Tech, Qualia worked at Napa Valley’s Silver Oak Cellars, Owl Ridge Wine Services in Sebastopol, Trione Vineyards and Winery in the Alexander Valley, and most recently served as the head winemaker and production manager at J&J Cellars in Paso Robles.
