Nicole Melton is an assistant professor in the Department of Health, Exercise and Sports Sciences. Her primary research focus is in the area of diversity and inclusion in sport. In terms of her scholarly pursuits, she seeks to achieve two ends: (a) broaden the understanding of and theoretical development in the area of diversity, and in doing so, (b) impact social change in sport and physical activity. Her program is examining the under-representation of various groups (e.g., women, racial minorities, sexual minorities) in leadership and coaching positions. In addition, she investigates the nature of prejudice and discrimination, including how people respond to prejudicial behaviors and antecedents of people expressing bias toward others.
