Dr. Harned's research develops molecular synthesis strategies that enable complex and scarce natural product compounds, which have demonstrated effectiveness in cancer treatment, to be prepared in quantities needed for study as drug candidates and for therapeutic use. He has advanced the use of asymmetric ary iodide catalysts to produce small signing molecules. Harned will bring an NIH–NIDA R21/R33, Development of Natural Product Based Opioid Receptor Ligands, with him to TTU. Prior to coming to TTU, Harned was an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota.
