Dr. Parkinson received her PhD in Comparative Arts from Ohio University. Her background in higher education administration and design history and practice brings experience and breadth to the department. She is a professional member of the International Interior Design Association and a corporate member of the Interior Design Education Council. She is a review editor for the Journal of Interior Design and served as a chair for the Council of Interior Design Accreditation. Her area of research is design history and theory. Within this context she is interested in the historic contributions of women and their role in creating contemporary environments.
