Board of Regents Designates New Horn Professor

The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents designated Eric Hequet, chairman of the Department of Plant and Soil Science, as a Horn Professor during its February meeting.

The Horn Professorship is the highest honor the university can bestow upon a faculty member. The designation, established in 1966, is named after the first president of Texas Tech University, Paul Whitfield Horn. The professorship recognizes scholarly achievement and outstanding service to Texas Tech University. Eighty-seven faculty members have been recognized as Horn Professors; 24 are still on the faculty.

Hequet joined Texas Tech in 1997. He is the department chair of the Department of Plant and Soil Science and the J.A. Love Endowed Chair for Sustainable Agriculture in the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources. He earned his doctorate and a Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches from the University of Haute Alsace in France. His research interests include developing improved properties in cotton fibers and improving testing methods for cotton.
