American patriot and pamphleteer. Active in arousing public opinion against England before the American Revolution, he was responsible for the creation of the Committee of Correspondence to communicate Boston's grievances to other towns in Massachusetts and "to the World" and prepared for the committee a radical declaration, State of the Rights of the Colonies. He was the leading spirit behind the Boston Tea Party and served in the Continental Congress where he advocated immediate independence. #0022
