Sara Spurgeon

Texas Tech University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sara Spurgeon to the College of Arts & Sciences.  She will begin her duties as Assistant Professor in the Department of English in the fall.  Her focus will be Literature of the American Southwest.

Spurgeon received her B.A. at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN.  She earned an M.A. in creative Writing from the University of New Mexico.  Her Ph.D. in Literature is from the University of Arizona.

Spurgeon has three books, several essays, and many short stories and other publications to her credit.  She is currently serving on the Editorial Board of Western American Literature: Quarterly Journal of the Western Literature Association. 

Spurgeon was an adjunct and then a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona in Women’s Studies.  In the English department there, she was instructor, adjunct, and Visiting Assistant Professor.

Sara is married to Greg Roberts, and their two boys are Seth (age 4) and Ian (age 2).  She is a runner, she loves horseback riding, and she and Greg love hiking, camping, and food-and-wine tastings.
