Dr. Rosslyn Smith
Dr. Smith came to Texas Tech University in 1979 after serving on the faculty at West Virginia University for five years. Prior to her retirement from full-time employment in December 2007, she served as Vice Provost for Outreach & Distance Education for eight years, including one year as interim vice provost. She also held an appointment as Professor of Spanish and linguistics in the Department of Classical and Modern and Languages and Literatures. Dr. Smith was the founding director of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center, where she served for eight years, and she also directed the international teaching assistant and intensive English programs for approximately 15 years. She currently serves as Vice Provost and Associate Dean for Academic Programs in University College (formerly the College of Outreach and Distance Education).
Dr. Smith received her B.A. in Spanish and Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of New Mexico, and her M.A. in Ibero-American Studies from the University of Wisconsin (Madison). She has held national offices in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and was a founding commissioner for the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA).
