Registration Errors Explained

Any single class can have multiple restrictions and/or requirements. For example, a class may have a major restriction, a college restriction, a prerequisite, a linked section, and a special approval.  Each of the required criteria must be resolved to allow successful registration into the class section.

When multiple errors appear, we recommend that you attempt to register for each section individually to determine which is actually causing the error.

Error Message Explanation Potential Solution

Campus Restriction
Registration is limited to students whose records in Raiderlink indicated they are assigned to a specific campus.
Most classes with the Distance Electronic (TDE) campus code are only open to Lubbock (TLB) campus students one month prior to the first class date.
Some classes are located at TTU and TTUHSC satellite campuses such as Junction, Marble Falls, Highland Lakes, Abilene, and Amarillo.
If you believe this error is incorrect, please email registrar@ttu.edu with your question (including the Term, Section CRN, the Campus to which you should be assigned, and your R number).
Class Restriction Registration for this section is limited to students in a specific classification.
Examples: freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, graduate, first year, second year, third year, and fourth year.
Earn more hours or discuss the situation with the assigned academic advisor for the discipline of this course.
Closed Section #### This section is full.
In some cases, classes can be over-enrolled.  Requests for enrollment overrides are handled on a case‐by‐case basis, and this practice varies between colleges, departments, and instructors.
Students should check with their assigned academic advisors. Advisors have knowledge of existing practices and can consult their campus contacts on the best course of action for these occasional requests.
College Restriction This section is limited to students within a specific college.
Examples: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Human Sciences, Graduate School, School of Law, School of Nursing, and School of Medicine.
Select another section or change majors.
Co‐Requisite ##### required An additional course must be taken during the same term as the selected course.
For example, ENGR 1315 requires concurrent enrollment in MATH 1351.
Review the course description to learn which courses are required and add both courses to your registration simultaneously.
Degree  Restriction This section is limited to students in a specific degree program.
Examples: Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Masters of Business Administration, Doctor of Jurisprudence, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Doctor of Medicine.
Select another section or change majors.
Department Restriction This section is limited to students within a specific department.
Examples: Accounting, Architecture, Nursing, Allied Health, and Medical Microbiology.
Select another section or change majors.
Duplicate course with Section ##### The student is attempting to register into two or more sections of the same course.
For example, ESS 1301 001 and ESS 1301 002.
Nice try.  A better (faster, easier, less frustrating) way to find open sections of the courses you want is to use schedulebuilder.ttu.edu.
Field of Study Restriction This section is limited to students within a specific major, minor, and/or concentration.  Examples: Civil Engineering, COBA, Nursing, and Biomedical Sciences. Select another section; or change majors, add a minor, or add a concentration.
Level Restriction Registration for this section is limited to students in a specific level. Examples: Undergraduate, Graduate, Law, Nursing‐Undergraduate, Nursing‐Graduate, Medicine. Undergraduate→Graduate: Seniors with a 3.0 Major Overall GPA can apply to take graduate-level classes.  Talk with your advisor and use this form to proceed.
Graduate→Law: Occasionally, graduate students are permitted to enroll in law classes.  Your academic advisor can provide insight on the pros and cons of this possibility, and if you proceed, can assist in filing the appropriate forms to request your enrollment.
Linked course required This section requires concurrent enrollment in another related section of the same course. Lecture sections frequently require concurrent enrollment in related Discussions, No Credit Labs, Labs, and/or Recitations.
For example, ANSC 1401 Lecture (section number 001) must be taken with one of the linked 'No Credit Lab' sections of ANSC 1401 (section numbers 501, 502, or 503).
Visual Schedule Builder is an excellent way to view schedules without considering unavailable links because it automatically removes them from your search results. Learn more at ScheduleBuilder.TTU.edu.
Maximum Hours Exceeded Registration for this section would place the student over the maximum credit hours allowed for a single term.  Affected students should contact their academic associate dean for approval to increase the maximum credit hours.
