Personal Information

Dr. Dick Auld has over thirty five years of experience in collegiate level education as both a teacher and student advisor.  At both the University of Idaho (1976 – 1991) and at Texas Tech University (1991 – Present) he has enjoyed teaching undergraduate genetics and plant breeding classes.  He has trained over 45 graduate students during his career. Since 1991 he served as an administrator, researcher, student advisor and teacher at Texas Tech University.  Dr. Auld won several teaching and public service awards while at both the University of Idaho and Texas Tech University.  He has been recognized as a Fellow of both American Society of Agronomy and the Crop Science Society of America and a Distinguished Alumni by NM State University.  In 2006, he was named as the Rockwell Professor of Plant Genetics and in 2008 accepted a joint appointment with Texas AgriLife Research (Texas A&M University).

Research Interests

His research has focused on using plant genetics to develop commercial crop varieties which produce unique products with enhanced value.  Much of his work has concentrated on developing cultivars of canola, cotton, and minor oilseed crops.   One of his most recent projects is the development of industrial oilseed crops for use in the renewable production of biofuels and industrial biopolymers.
