Dr. Young served as a graduate research assistant in the department of horticulture at the University of Arkansas, and at Mississippi State’s Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology. His turfgrass management experience includes a variety of duties at the University of Arkansas, Mississippi State University, and an internship with the United States golf Association in Charlotte, NC.
Dr. Young received his bachelor’s degree in agronomy with an emphasis in golf course and sports turf management and his master’s degree in plant pathology from Mississippi State University. His doctorate in turfgrass science is from the University of Arkansas. He is a member of the Crop Science Society of America, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and the American Phytopathological Society.
Dr. Young is particularly interested in continuing his research efforts on water quantity and quality issues related to all turf management. Weed control is another challenge facing turf managers in this region, so determining management or chemical control options will be a high priority, he said.
“My research background involves both turfgrass pathology and physiology, so combining the knowledge I’ve gained, I’d like to help turf managers maintain the healthiest turf possible in a tough environment through best practices,” Young said
