Personal InformationDr. Rohan Dassanayake is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Texas Tech University (TTU) under the advisement of Dr. Noureddine Abidi. He holds his PhD degree in chemistry from Kent State University at Kent, Ohio. After his PhD graduation, he joined Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute at Texas Tech University as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Dr. Dassanayake's research interest areas of expertise include (1) Kinetics and mechanistic studies on the reactions of vitamin B12 complexes with reactive oxygen species; (2) preparation and characterization of biopolymer-based composite materials for the mitigation of greenhouse gases and remediation of industrial dye wastewater; (3) investigation of antimicrobial activity of biopolymer-based hybrid materials. So far, Dr. Dassanayake has published 15 journal papers and 1 book chapter. He is member of American Chemical Society (ACS). He also serves as an Editorial Board Member of Journal of Biopolymer Research.
Research InterestsOur research focuses on developing sustainable, environmentally benign, economically feasible and renewable novel biopolymer-based composite materials for (1) climate resilient transportation infrastructure; (2) mitigation of greenhouse gases including carbon dioxide; (3) remediation of industrial dye wastewater and medical applications such as wound dressing, packing and burn treatments.
