Frequently Asked Questions

Cortaderia selloana

We've gathered some of the most common questions about plant selection and about the TTU Plant Resource Database. Check here first, and if you still have questions, feel free to submit your own questions through the form at the bottom of the page.

I'm trying to find a specific plant, but its name doesn't show up in the directory. What gives?

There are a few things to try:

  • First (after checking your spelling), check out our breakdown of plants with varying names or names that have changed over time to see if your plant is mentioned.
  • If that doesn't turn up your plant, try a quick Google search (particularly if you are trying to match a common name) to see if there are alternative names that we haven't seen.
  • If you still can't find the plant, it's very likely that it isn't in our database (yet!). Its scope is currently focused on herbaceous plants that are grown often or well in the region, and we are continuously adding new material.
  • If there's a plant that you think should be included, please let us know! The form at the bottom of the page can be used to ask questions or make recommendations to make this database as comprehensive and convenient as possible.

Where can I find these plants in person?

Many of these plants can be spotted on the Texas Tech University campus, either in the landscape or at the TTU Horticulture Gardens and Greenhouse Complex.  Check out our Plant Location Map to discover where to find examples of the plants in real life.
