Welcome Letter from Dr. Cohen, Department Chair

cohenWelcome to the Department of Psychological Sciences at Texas Tech. As mentioned in our mission statement, the Department is committed to excellence in teaching, nationally recognized research, and outstanding service to the university, profession and community. I think you’ll find this a vibrant department with approximately 900 undergraduate majors, 120 graduate students, 28 tenured or tenure-line faculty, a psychology training clinic, and an exceptional staff recognized as the “most helpful department” by a recent reader’s choice poll in the Daily Toreador. I would encourage you to spend some time exploring our web page and familiarize yourself with the Department. We are proud of our undergraduate program leading to a BA in Psychology, our doctoral programs in clinical and counseling psychology which are both accredited by the American Psychological Association, and our masters and doctoral programs in Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Human Factors (accredited by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society).

I think you’ll find that our faculty and students alike represent a broad range of expertise and interests. Dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge in the psychological sciences, our faculty members are outstanding teachers, researchers and professional leaders in psychology at the state, regional and national levels. We take great pride in creating an environment conducive to learning, growth and development for all of our students. Our undergraduates have an excellent record of achieving admission to graduate programs and our doctoral student alumni have succeeded as academicians, clinicians, researchers and in related positions in industry.

I hope you’ll find this website interesting, informative and easy to navigate. If you would like to see what our faculty and students have been doing, here are some links to our most recent news including publications, speaking engagements, and awards, among other things.
