The
2005 IASR scientific meeting took place in New York City on October
31 – November
1, 2005. This meeting took place in conjunction with the American
Foundation for Suicide Prevention and was a two-day meeting. The
first day was devoted to sessions sponsored by the American Foundation
for Suicide Prevention, and the second day was devoted to three
sessions under the auspices of the IASR. Attendance at this meeting
was the largest ever for an IASR scientific meeting. The scientific
program was also the largest ever sponsored by the IASR. The Academy
is grateful for the support and help from the American Foundation
for Suicide Prevention, which assisted in fund raising and managed
many of the logistics of the meeting, in particular, Dr. Herbert
Hendin, Ms. Elizabeth Gough, and Ms. Bethany Koestner. A copy of
the scientific agenda for the conference was emailed to all of
the IASR membership. The business meeting of the IASR took place
during this conference, and the minutes have been emailed directly
to all Academy members. A highlight of the meeting was the presentation
of the second Morselli Medal to Dr. Aaron Beck. The minutes include
a brief statement of Dr. Beck’s accomplishments and the basis
for awarding the medal. A photo of the 2005 recipient appears below.
