Opportunities for Research
 
   Research opportunities are diverse and can include collaborations with faculty in other departments as well as across specializations within experimental psychology. Topics of interest include the following: 

Applications in Health: human factors in medicine; image-guided interventions  in laporoscopic surgery; web designs for the visually impaired; aging; management of chronic pain (e.g., design of effective work and rest schedules); motor performance and assessment of rehabilitation procedures; attitudes toward environmental accommodation of people with disabilities and elderly individuals 

Human Computer Interaction: Internet usability and accessibility, Interface design and optimization

Human Factors in Transportation:  

Aviation/Aerospace: air traffic control; cockpit displays; night vision goggles; team communication and crew performance 

Surface Transportation. age differences in driving; visual perception of collision; detection of deceleration 

Learning Technologies: distance learning; Internet-mediated instruction; metacognition in education; student-computer and electronic conference interactions, and technology and instruction 

Visual Perception & Performance: perceptual issues in tele-operation and virtual reality; perceptual factors in minimally-invasive surgery; pictorial perception and memory for visually perceived events; virtual environments; visual perception of depth, motion and collision; visual performance in sport; visual illusions
