Overview

Showing Off

The exhibit, “Recent Acquisitions” opened on April 6, 2009 to show off, or brag about, some of the newest artifacts, art and books acquired by the NRHC. This display of new items will re-occur periodically as the collections continue to grow. We want everyone to share in the excitement of new donations entrusted to the NRHC and RHA.

In one exhibit case rests a rare 1866 Model Winchester rifle, the “Yellow Boy,” along with another famous rifle, the 1886 Model Winchester. In a second case hangs four untitled works from the collection of Frank Reaugh pastels and paintings which arrived at the NRHC a few months ago. Also exhibited in that case are two Robert Lougheed paintings donated by Joe and Dot Nagy.

A third display case exhibits eight rare books obtained by the RHA in December of 2008.  These are:

“Ranching With Lords And Commons: Or Twenty Years On The Range” by John R. Craig.

“The Chisholm Trail” by Sam P. Ridings

“The Parramore Sketches; Scenes and Stories of Early West Texas” by Dock Dilworth Paramore.

“Trails I Rode” by Con Price.

“Trails of Yesterday” by John Bratt

“Life On The Range And On The Trail” by R.J. Lauderdale and John M. Doak

“In a Narrow Grave” by Larry McMurtry

“A Log Of The Texas-California Cattle Trail, 1854” by James G. Bell
