The Introduction to Marketing (MKT 3350) classes welcomed Megan Bailey, franchise sales director for Goosehead Insurance, as a guest speaker on Oct. 9.
Bailey graduated with her B.A. in Communications Studies, Business and Marketing from the University of Iowa in 2006. In her presentation titled "Your Decisions, Your Future," Bailey discussed her background with advertising, software and insurance sales.
She discussed what to look for in a job, including the people, the opportunity for growth and the salary. She said the leadership at a company needs to be capable, intelligent and driven. She also suggested to look for companies whose culture is cohesive, inclusive, humble and has a noble purpose.
Bailey talked about how companies look to hire graduates who are professional, intelligent, kind, have drive, and are committed.
She stressed the importance of being prepared for an interview and shared tips for following up after the interview. Bailey also advised students on how to be successful once they have secured a position. Goal-setting, persistence and "owning one's decisions" were just a few of the suggestions.
Bailey closed with sharing her personal experience working with Goosehead Insurance, one of the largest personal lines independent agencies in the U.S., and encouraged students to consider a career with Goosehead.
