About Bill

Bill Porter is an Instructor in the Area of Energy, Economics and Law at the Rawls College of Business Administration, where he is responsible for the administration of various online courses in business law, as well as serving as instructor for some modules of those courses. 

Bill is an English lawyer who moved to Texas in 2000 and became an American citizen in 2005.  Prior to that he had worked in local government in England, beginning in 1967 and ending in 1998, by which time he had reached the position of Head of Law and Administration of a large city council in the Greater Manchester conurbation and was also the Deputy Clerk of the Greater Manchester Police Authority.  Bill has many years' experience in various fields of law, including contract law, torts, property law, housing law, town and country planning (zoning), and employment law.  After taking early retirement in anticipation of moving to the USA, Bill served for many years as a home-based consultant caseworker for the Legal Services Ombudsman for England and Wales, reviewing the handling of client complaints against lawyers.  Prior to the economic collapse of 2008, Bill also worked for a short time as a landman for a company based in Midland, Texas.

Bill earned a Bachelor of Laws honors degree from the University of Leeds in 1967, he passed the Law Society's Qualifying Examination in 1969, and was admitted as a solicitor in 1970.  He successfully completed the UK Top Managers Program for Local Government in 1996.
