Goals
Goal 1 - Provide the best modern recreation facilities and equipment for student and faculty/staff use.
Benchmarks:
- 100 % of SRC fitness studios have contemporary working stereo systems.
- Leisure pool opened and operating by March, 2009.
- Increase by 15% the number of fitness equipment having individualized TVs.
- Referendum approved by Students for satellite recreation facility by 2011.
- Increase by 50% the number of functional areas housing automated web based operations.
- 10% annual replacement/upgrade schedule of cardio equipment
Objective 1.1 - Improve sound systems in fitness studio
Strategies:
- Utilize expertise of USA sound personnel to determine needs
- Establish funding sources
- Purchase and install new equipment
Objective 1.2 - Design, construct and open within budget, new leisure pool adjacent to Student Recreation Center.
Strategies:
- Work with students, Facility Planning and architects to create a one-of-a-kind leisure pool
- Establish priorities on completion date
- Determine operational costs and secure yearly operational funds
Objective 1.3 - Increase the number of individualized pieces of fitness equipment having their own TVs.
Strategies:
- Determine locations, cable availability and desired equipment needs
- Secure funding for projects from Rec Fee Advisory Committee
Objective 1.4 - Receive approval for design of satellite recreation/student union facility
near West Rec Soccer Complex
Strategies:
- Do preliminary planning with Union, Rec Sports
- Hire architect to do planning schematic and budget preparation
- Meet with students to gauge interest
- Determine funding
- Have referendum on new facility
Objective 1.5 – Use of new technology in departmental operation
Strategies:
- Improve equipment issue check-out to ID card swipe system
- Purchase an registration/point of sale system for Fit/Well programs
- Purchase and install digital sign for building
Goal 2 - Expand recreational opportunities for students
Benchmarks:
- One new facility update yearly in Student Recreation Center
- 5% increase in fitness class participation
- 5% increase in fitness special events
- 95% play rate for all team intramurals
Objective 2.1 - Update physical facility areas within Student Recreation & Aquatic Center
Strategies:
- Expand boxing area
- Create outdoor basketball court
- Create classrooms space at Aquatic Center
- Develop outdoor " Venice Beach" lifting area
Objective 2.2 – Provide additional opportunities through Fitness/Wellness Center
Strategies:
- Develop a "for credit" personnel training course
- Develop a "for credit" group fitness training course.
- Promotional booths across campus
- Choreographed programs provided around campus
Objective 2.3 - Increase intramural play rate for team sports
Strategies:
- Market policies and procedures
- Increase refundable team intramural forfeit fee
- Improve recreation leagues with more play dates
Objective 2.4 - Involve incoming freshman into Sport Club Program
Strategies:
- Move Sport Club "Publicity Day" to the beginning of semester
- Produce Sport Club brochure for freshman
Goal 3 - Use of resources to recruit and retain quality staff and student assistants
Benchmarks:
- Increase of student assistant salaries by an average of 20%
- Average 3 semesters of work for all student assistants trained
Objective 3.1 Decrease turn-over of student assistant employees
Strategies:
- Increase student employee salaries above minimum wage increases
- Identify specialty student positions and pay competitive salaries
- Focus on departmental expectations during hiring and training
Objective 3.2 Provide training and developmental opportunities for staff
Strategies:
- Update lifeguards with the new lifeguard qualifications
- Provide in-house CEU training for fitness instructors yearly
- Increase the number of fitness instructors nationally certified
- Encouragement and support for staff learning
Goal 4 - Increase Outdoor Pursuit Center participation opportunities for students, faculty and staff
Benchmarks:
- 10% increase trip participation
- 5% increase in wall use
- 5% increase in programs and special events
Objective 4.1: Identification and development of new users
Strategies:
- Establishment of an outdoor themed living community within the Residence Halls.
- Develop new programs for international students through the International Culture Center
- Partner with Intensive English for new programming opportunities
Objective 4.2: Increase current program practices
Strategies:
- Work with departmental marketing department
- Increase partnering practices with Honors College
- Review present scheduling format
Goal 5 - Departmental awareness throughout campus
Benchmarks:
- Increase sponsorship income by $10,000
- Installation of new digital signage
- Annual Student Rec Center use exceeds1,000,000
