Q. What is the cost to play intramurals?

Team sports require a $50 forfeit fee in order to register.  Teams will be credited back their forfeit fee at the end of the semester as long as they have not forfeited.
Almost all of our individual sports are free, unless they are played at a local business, i.e. Putt-Putt, Bowling, Golf.  When we do use a local business, our participants get a reduced rate to play.

Q. How many teams can I play on?

You may play on 1 men’s team or Women’s team and 1 Co-Rec team per sport.

Q. What if my teams are a Residence Hall team and a Greek team?

No, although the teams are in different divisions they are still considered part of the same sport.

Q. I don’t have a team, what do I do?

You are then considered a Free Agent.  The F.A. program consists on attending a meeting and filling out a one page bio.  Teams are formed at the meeting.

Q. When are the Free Agent Meetings?

Typically the meetings are scheduled the Wednesday of the sign-up period.  Be sure to check with the IM staff or check out the website.

Q. I have a team, but what more do I have to do?

You can find our team entry form on-line or you can fill it out when you come to sign-up.  Our sign-up system is considered Instant-Schedule.  During the 3 day sign-up period (T-Th) teams will bring their Forfeit fee and an Entry Form filled out with team name, member’s names and socials to the IM office.  At that time they will register for a day and time slot that is available.  This is will be the time they will play their games in the regular season. So know what days and times your players can play when you come to sign-up.

Q. How many games to we get to play?

For most team sports, each team is scheduled to play 3 regular season games and then all eligible teams will be placed in a single-elimination playoff bracket based on their division and record.

Q. What do I need to bring to my game?

A picture ID is required.  It’s easiest to bring your Tech ID.  We have most of the sporting equipment needed to play each of our games. However, this equipment is checked out and shared by everyone so the condition may not be up to your standards. 

Q. Why can’t my friend from South Plains play? He used to go to Tech.

The easy answer is because they haven’t paid the same fees as Tech students and the University deals with people on a current semester basis instead of what have you done or what will you do.  Another reason would be that we want our program to be a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants and staff.  Bringing an outsider to our events creates an un-safe situation because that person has no current affiliation with the university, therefore has nothing to lose.

Q. How do you make the playoffs and when do they start?

Every team is eligible for the playoffs as long as their Sportsmanship Rating is good and they are considered in good standing with the IM department.  The playoffs start immediately after the last regular season day is finished.  Depending on the day that your teams play that could mean a week after your last game or the next day after your last game.  The schedules will be posted on our website or a hard copy can be found in our office.

Q. How come we don’t play on the same day in the playoffs as we do in the regular season and what do we do if we can’t play at our scheduled time?

In order to have teams play different opponents we have to move teams off of their regular season scheduled time.  If you can not play, you may be able to reschedule.  First you need to contact your opponent to see if they would be able to move, if they say yes you need to contact the IM office to set up a time that you and your opponent can come by to check on another option.  Calling your opponent and changing the game yourself will not be recognized by the IM office as a legal game.  If the office can find a space and time available to move the game both teams will sign the sheet authorizing the change.  If a change is not possible and the game is at least one business day away, you may “Default” the game, which is a loss without loss of money.

Q. I need a job, what’s the deal with officiating?

We hire officials for some of our team sports.  Flag Football ($10), Softball & Basketball ($9) and Volleyball ($8).  A comprehensive training program is conducted prior to the season.  Sport knowledge is required, but prior officiating experience is not.  Attending the initial date of the program will give you the rest of the information.  Start dates can be found on our website or in the IM office.

Q. Can I still play and officiate?

Of course, almost all of our officials do.  Noting on availability when you play is all we ask so we do not schedule you at the same time.
