The OPC Trips Program offers many exciting trips and challenges. These trips are designed for a personal challenge, education and most of all – FUN. Our goal is to provide you with a great adventure experience. You can register by visiting the Outdoor Pursuits Center, located just outside the North entrance of the Student Rec Center. Wilderness Medicine Trainings
Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder Re-Certification
Trip Dates: March 3 - 4
Early Registration Deadline: January 20
WMTC Wilderness First Aid (WFA) courses are designed to introduce you to the concepts of medical care in a wilderness setting. The course focuses on Basic Life Support skills, minor trauma, selected environmental topics, spine assessment and the ruling out process, allergic and toxic reactions, and “common” medical emergencies. As with all our courses, the majority of time is spent in hands-on skills practice and simulations.
Wilderness First Responder
Trip Dates: March 10 - 18
Early Registration Deadline: February 3
Trip Location: TTU Junction Campus
You’ll be in good hands learning from the experienced staff of the Wilderness Medical Training Center. In this nine day course you’ll learn the ins and outs of backcountry diagnosis, care, and evacuation for most wilderness medical situations. Along with the interesting lecture component, a lot of your time will be spent performing the skills you learn in emergency scenarios throughout the Junction campus. While your days are full you may find the time to tube the llano river or head to town for dinner.

Colorado Ice Climbing
Trip Dates: February 23 - 26

Come learn and experience spectacular ice climbing in Colorado’s
beautiful San Juan Mountains. Enjoy two full days of
climbing and evenings indoors to eat and warm up. Determined
outdoor enthusiasts encouraged! Our cabin is fully furnished
and includes a hot tub to warm back up after having
some fun on the ice.
Palo Duro Mountain Biking
Trip Date: February 25

Let’s Ride! The trails are moderate in difficulty and the views are spectacular in the second largest canyon in the US. You must provide your own bike and helmet, however you can also rent a bike or helmet from the Outdoor Pursuits Center for a discounted rate
Palo Duro Day Hike
Trip Date: February 26
Early Registration Deadline: February 15
Palo Duro State Park is located in the second largest canyon in the U.S. After a short drive into the heart of the Texas panhandle, we will spend the day on a moderate hike and enjoy lunch in this beautiful area.
Big Bend Canoe
Trip Dates: March 10 - 13
Early Registration Deadline: February 22
Join us in Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park. Enjoy
the beautiful West Texas scenery on this raft supported canoe
trip. All canoeing experience levels are welcome.
Gila Hot Springs
Trip Dates:March 10 - 15
Early Registration Deadline: February 22
This trip will take you to the Gila National Forest in Southern
New Mexico where you will encounter hot water direct
from the Earth. We will begin each day with Yoga, site see,
enjoy some hiking, visit hot springs, and wrapping up with
some Yoga in the evening. In addition, the nature of this trip
allows opportunity for some fantastic Dutch Oven meals. If
you are looking for a relaxing Spring Break with a little adventure
mixed in, grab your bathing suit and camera for this
restorative trip.

Caprock Day Hike
Trip Date: March 25

A little over an hour from Lubbock is West Texas’ best kept secret. Caprock Canyons State Park is known for its extensive canyon system and rock outcroppings. We will enjoy the brisk air while hiking about 4-6 miles and enjoying an outdoor lunch.
Intro to Whitewater Kayaking
Trip Dates: March 30 - April 1
Early Registration Deadline: March 14
Join us as we navigate the whitewaters of the Texas Hill Country.
This course is designed to introduce basic fundamental skills
needed for whitewater kayaking. Topics introduced include the
kayak roll, boat control, and basic river running skills. This trip
requires three pool sessions prior to the trip.
New Mexico Rock Climbing
Trip Dates: April 6 - 9
Early Registration Deadline: October 5
Climbers of all skill levels are encouraged to join us for a weekend of great climbing in one of New Mexico’s many excellent climbing destinations. Climbing sites and activity will be determined based on the needs of the group. So come one, come all for a weekend of great climbing, great food, and great people!
Womens Only Kayaking
Trip Dates: April 13 - 15

Join us for a weekend of kayaking for women
only! Whether you’ve been kayaking with us
before, or you’ve always wanted to try, don’t
miss out on this chance to learn the fundamentals
of whitewater kayaking or hone your existing
skills in a comfortable environment. This
trip will be led by our certified ACA Kayaking
Instructors.
April Deadlines
Buck Creek Mountain Biking
Trip Dates: April 14
Early Registration Deadline: April 4
Don’t miss out on joining us for a new mountain biking
venue! We’re headed to Abilene, TX to ride the local Buck
Creek Mountain Biking Trails. With nearly twenty miles
of single track, this will be a fantastic opportunity for beginners
to try mountain biking for the first time, and for
experienced riders to try out a new place! We’ll ride for
most of the day, and be back in time for dinner.
Wichita Mountain Rock Climbing
Trip Dates: April 20 - 22
Early Registration Deadline: April 4
We’re headed to Oklahoma’s Wichita Wildlife Refuge
for a weekend of great climbing, great food, and
nights under the stars. All climbing levels are welcome,
as this trip will be tailored specifically for
those who sign up.
Intermediate Kayaking
Trip Dates: April 27 - 29
Early Registration Deadline: October 5
This trip, to the Pilar section of the Rio Grande, is to
get you comfortable paddling in class III whitewater.
You will kayak the “Race Course”, considered the best
intermediate run in New Mexico. Intro to White water
Kayaking is a prerequisite to this trip. Grab your
paddle and get ready for some rapids!
Guadalupe Canyoneering
Trip Dates: May 3 - 6
Early Registration Deadline: April 18
The Guadalupe Mountains are one of the most unique natural
resources in the Southwest. On this trip, you will find yourself being
challenged to tackle rugged limestone slopes as we descend
over one thousand feet into one of the numerous canyon systems.
Adventures on this incredible trip include rappelling, scrambling,
and a tyrolean traverse over a canyon pool. There’s nothing like it.
