Climbing Center
Enjoy the natural elements inside the comfort of the Rec Center! The Climbing Center offers Recreational Sports members the opportunity to rock climb year round indoors while hanging high. The Climbing Center has over 4,000 sq ft of climbing, a free standing boulder, a full length crack, 10 foot roof section, 13 top-rope stations, 7 lead lines, and climbing routes for the beginner to the advanced climber. The Climbing Center offers open recreation, instructional clinics, movement workshops, and is also available for group rental. Harnesses, climbing shoes, and other equipment are all available to participants. Come try this exciting activity and find a great place to have fun and meet new people!

 

 

Getting Started
Okay, a 53 foot wall can be intimidating, but getting to the top is easier than you think. All year long our climbing staff will help you tackle the rock. Here's how:

• Come by and ask to climb! Our staff will be glad to get you on the wall!
• Take the Fundamentals Class, earn your skills verification and you are ready to belay others on your own!
  • Offered Mon-Thurs @ 5:30
  • Learn the basics of climbing which includes belaying, knots, and climbing technique. After this course you will be able to pass your skills verification and climb with ropes at the wall.
  • The fee for the class is $5 and includes the skills verification

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I bring a friend who has not been certified at the Tech Climbing Center?
Yes, if a student/patron is a member of Rec Sports but not Skill Verified, they can climb with someone who is certified, for no charge except for equipment rental. An Acknowledgment of Risk form must be filled out, and the non-skills verified individual will not be able to belay.

Can I use the wall even though I don't currently have a membership to the Recreation Center?
Yes, non-members must have a sponsor to enter the building and pay a $5 guest fee.

Is there a waiver for the Climbing Center ?
Yes, there is a waiver. You can download it here: WAIVER or fill it out at the Climbing Center. If under the age of 18 the waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

How can I bring kids up to use the wall?
There are a number of possibilities. The first thing to consider is the ages of the children:

• Children below the age of 18 needs to have a parent/guardian sign the risk waiver form. It is preferable that both parents/guardians sign the waiver.
• Children younger than 17, must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The parent/guardian must be a Rec Sports member or follow the Non-member procedures noted above.
• Children younger than 13 will be designated as "Climber Only" and must be accompanied by a belay certified parent/guardian. Both child and parent/guardian must pay rental charge for equipment. Minimum age requirement at the wall is 5 yrs old.
