Who:

It's a teen thing! Teens ages 11-16. You or your family members do not need to have a Rec Center membership.

Why:
FITNESS! Learn to do it right! Learn correct form and the principles of cardiovascular, muscular, and flexibility conditioning. And have fun doing it! Teens will be taught to use the selectorized machine weights, the cardiovascular machines as well as group fitness activities.

How Do I Register?:
Mail in the downloadable registration form [Click HERE for form] or come to the Fitness/Wellness Center inside the Student Recreation Center on the TTU campus. Call (806) 742-3828 for directions or more info.

Notes for parents:
Instructors will meet you and your child at the North ID of the SRC on the first day of class. The class will run from 1-3 pm Thursdays & Thursdays. After the first day, your child may come in to the Rec by him or herself, but must check in with the ID checker who will have a list of class participants. At the end of each session, your child will be escorted to the parking lot to the west of the Rec Center at 3:00 pm. Please be prompt in picking your child up.

Each class will contain either cardiovascular or muscular strengthening components, as well as flexibility. Health and fitness topics will also be presented. Students will be expected to actively participate in all activities. Since children under 17 are not allowed in the free-weight room, only lighter dumbbell free weights (as used in a group fitness class) will be taught. Student-to-fitness supervisor ratio will be at a 10/1 maximum. Activities may include walking or running, use of select weight equipment, indoor cycling, climbing wall, water sports/fitness, and cardiovascular equipment use.

Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and workout shoes (i.e. running, cross training, tennis). Tank tops are allowed, but shirts must have a full back. Participants will be provided with a workout towel each day. Please see that shorts are not suggestively short and are of a stretch material. It is suggested that participants bring a water bottle to class. No other beverages are allowed in the facility.

Upon completion of the class, students should know how to properly use the cardiovascular machines, select machines in the circuit and machine weight rooms, the Schwinn stationary “Spin” bicycles, and a variety of fitness modalities such as bands, tubes and light dumbbells. They should understand the fundamental principles in setting up a fitness program, using different forms of exercise.

The knowledge and instruction that will be given does not excuse children from following the SRC rules when they use the SRC at times other than this class. If you are a Rec Center member and intend that your child accompany you to the Rec at other times, children must always be accompanied by a parent and both parent and child must be in the same room of the Rec.

If you do not have a parking permit, you will need to either wait in your vehicle for your child or pay at the pay station in order to come inside.
