Independent Study Through
Outreach and Distance Education

Students wishing to enroll in one of Tech's External Degree programs or a correspondence or distance learning course should first contact the Office of Outreach and Distance Education for information on application and payment procedures.

To be reimbursed for these courses from the VA, please remember VA will only pay for courses that apply to the student’s current degree program.

  • If the student will earn their degree from Tech, a degree plan must be filed with the VA Coordinator and the course(s) must be listed as a requirement for that degree.
  • If the student will earn their degree from another institution, a Parental Institution Letter (sometimes referred to Form 315) approving the course must be submitted from the student’s parent school to Tech’s VA Coordinator.
  • All students submit your full name, current mailing address, chapter and file number.

Please Note: VA needs beginning and ending dates of each course before payment can be made. The best method is to report your enrollment in these courses after completion so that VA will be able to determine your pay rate accurately. Neither Texas Tech, nor the Parent School, nor either Certifying Official can guarantee payment for I/S courses as that is ultimately for the VARO to determine.
