The following students may be exempt:
- Students who have previously earned a Baccalaureate degree from another Texas Public institution of higher education (college transcript needed).
- Students who have previously earned a Associates degree from a Texas Public institution of higher education (college transcript needed).

- Students seeking entry into teacher education certification programs may be exempted only on the basis of high test scores.
- Transfer students who have satisfied TSI requirements at another Texas public institution of higher education must provide documentation of an exemption or completion of developmental coursework. If you have taken a TSI approved alternate test, documentation must be provided to the TSI Compliance Office prior to enrollment.
- Students who have served in the military (on or after August 1, 1990) and were honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty as a member of the armed forces of the U.S., the Texas National Guard, or a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the U.S. (Copy of DD214 enclosed).
- Students currently serving on active military as a member of the armed forces of the U.S. or the Texas National Guard, or are currently serving and have been serving for at least 3 years prior to enrollment as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the U.S. (Letter from Commanding Officer required).

Students transferring in courses from an accredited private or out-of-state institution of higher education who have achieved a "C" or better in each of the TSI subject areas in the following courses:

- TAKS Exemptions - beginning with 2005 High School Graduates: A minimum of 2200 on the mathematics section and/or a minimum of 2200 with a writing subscore of at least 3 in the English/Language Arts section of theEXIT-LEVEL exam. The exemption will be given for those corresponding sections only (i.e. you score a 2313 with a 4 sub-score on the English/Language Arts section and a 2199 on the Math section - you would be exempt from the Reading and Writing sections of the TSI). Scores are only valid for 3 years.
