Sexual Assault Prevention Peer Educator Program
WHAT IS THE PEER EDUCATOR PROGRAM ABOUT?
The Student Counseling
Center offers a Sexual Assault Prevention Peer Educator program that focuses
on sexual assault prevention and healthy relationship decisions for college
students. This is a “students-educating-students” program, in which peer
educators would serve on the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness
Committee (SAPAC) and provide outreach programming about sexual assault
prevention and healthy relationships to the Texas Tech community.
Peer educators are trained in and gain valuable experience by designing,
coordinating,
and presenting a variety of programs for university students. As a peer
educator you will receive training in and then engage in the following
activities: presenting programs, facilitating group discussions, and
staffing resource fair tables. Students from any department are welcome to
participate in the program.
All peer educators will serve on the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness
Committee, which meets weekly. Training is provided by Student Counseling
Center staff members and covers information about sexual assault prevention
and healthy relationships, as well as specific skills training in areas of
public speaking, group facilitation and issues around confidentiality.
