Ty Stafford, Ph.D.

Graduate Training: Counseling Psychology, Auburn University, 2015

Masters of Education, Community Agency Counseling, Auburn University

Internship: Texas Tech University, 2012-2013

Theoretical Orientation: Emotion Focused, Person-Centered, Interpersonal

Professional Interests: Diversity and multicultural issues, LGBT concerns, outreach, group therapy, training/supervision, sexual assault, advocacy

Approach to Therapy: I see my role in therapy as creating a place for individuals to feel safe so that they can truly examine themselves and what they desire. I focus on assisting individuals in exploring their emotional experience and providing both the support and guidance that an individual needs in order to facilitate the change they require.

Approach to Supervision: I think about supervision similarly to the way I think about therapy. My goal is to create a space in which supervisees feel comfortable sharing their failures and successes, exploring where they would like to grow, and assist in building supervisees’ skills and, by extension, their confidence. I do not take supervision lightly and believe that it should provide both the support and challenge that a supervisee requires to become a successful professional.
