Faculty Identification Card(s)

Sample ID cardAt the Senate meeting on December 7, senators noted the proliferation of faculty identification and cash cards. Currently the wallets and purses of Texas Tech faculty members contain faculty/staff identification cards, Health Select cards, library cards, library photocopy cards, gym cards, Tech Express cards, State of Texas tax exemption cards, State of Texas travel cards, etc. Now it is proposed that a card swipe system be used to govern entrance to the Faculty Lounge—hence one more card! The Budget Study Committee was subsequently charged with answering the following questions: Is at least some card consolidation possible? Is it worth the cost? And, if so, what would be the best way to proceed?

After study, the committee concluded that some consolidation of faculty identification cards is possible under the present system and no Senate action is necessary at this time. These conclusions were presented in an oral report.
