Dear Fellow Red Raiders,

I want to formally welcome you to the start of another amazing school year at Texas Tech University. We here in the Student Government office are working diligently to bring your ideas to light.  I am excited for the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with you all and to help your voices be heard. There is no better time to be a Red Raider than right now. Tech is moving quickly toward becoming a renowned research university, so great things are happening on every part of campus. We saw the construction and grand opening of the beautiful, new Rawls College of Business last semester and look forward to the relocation of the College of Media and Communication in the fall. We also look forward to the opening of a new residence hall, dinning center and the Kent Hance Chapel. Texas Tech Student Government Association provides all students with programs that help them on and off campus. We offer services such as Safe Ride, which utilizes Lubbock taxicabs to provide students with safe transportation each night. Our new safety initiative, the S-Bus, is a 60-passenger bus used to transport students from key spots around town to their places of residence.  We are always open to new initiatives that will help make Tech feel like home. I came to Tech because of its academics and its ability to bring students out of the shadow and give them an opportunity to succeed. I look forward to showing students how great this university is and helping them identify opportunities. Whether you are a freshman, transfer, out-of-state or international student, I welcome you to Texas Tech and encourage you to get involved. Please never hesitate to stop by the SGA office, room 302 in the Student Union Building, or call me at 806-742-3631. My door is always open.

Sincerely,
Alex Alston
