Events

In conjunction with reading The Devil’s Highway: A True Story, students will have the opportunity to attend a lecture or a film series, be involved in a discussion about the book in their residence hall and during the Raider Welcome activities, or attend one of the other numerous theme-related events on campus.  The book may also be assigned in courses designed for first-year students. 

 

Below are activities and events designed to complement The Devil’s Highway: A True Story.  Be sure to participate in as many events as you can to make the most of the Summer Reading Program.

  • Monday, September 22
    • Essay or Poetry Contest Submissions Due – visit www.depts.ttu.edu/srp for complete contest details
    • Luis Alberto Urrea, Author of The Devil's Highway: A True Story, to visit Texas Tech University
    • Book Signing – 2:00pm – Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Student Union Building
    • Summer Reading Program Dinner with Luis Alberto Urrea – 7:00pm – Tickets available on September 15 in the Center for Campus Life

  • Tuesday, September 23
    • Luis Alberto Urrea, Author of The Devil's Highway: A True Story, continues visit to Texas Tech University
     

  • Wednesday, September 24
    • TAB FREE Movie – “Under the Same Moon” – 8:00pm – SUB    Allen Theatre – Discussion to follow
     

  • Thursday, September 25
    • TAB FREE Movie – “Under the Same Moon” – 3:00pm – SUB Escondido Theatre – Discussion to follow
