Approval of Minutes
It was moved by David Tillack and seconded by Steven Boyer that the minutes of December 6, 2000 be accepted as written. The motion carried unanimously.
No Treasurer's Repor
The amended Constitution did not go forward to the Board of Regents for approval. It was questioned why the Senate needed/wanted the Board's approval for revisions. President Billingsley investigated the question with PeeWee Roberson and Susan Peterson. There is not a rule that an organization needs to have approval from the Board of Regents to make changes to their constitution. Therefore, it was moved by Jan Kinghorn and seconded by Pat Cates to accept the constitution after striking the statement, …"and approved by the Board of Regents," from Article VI and Article VII. The motion passed unanimously. President Billingsley will submit the new amended Constitution to President Schmidly for his approval.
Sick Leave Committee
Several responses have been received as a result of the sick leave survey. The Sick Leave Committee will conduct follow-up on the responses. The committee will meet on January 9, 2001.
Guest Speaker Dr. Owens, Director Programs for Academic Support Services, spoke to the group regarding the services offered by her department, which include The Learning Center and TASP. Dr. Owens encouraged Senators to refer students in need of resources for achieving success in school.
Kerry gave an up-date on the six options that have been presented for parking garages and reported that the location for the first garage will be in the vicinity of 18th Street and Flint Avenue. The Staff Senate meeting adjourned at 3:50 p.m. and re-assembled in closed working session to continue working on the SWOT analysis. The Senate will present a report to President Schmidly within the next two weeks.
