- Roll Call:
- 56 of 67 senators present (3 vacancies).
- Absent: 11.
- Minutes:
- August 2010 meeting minutes approved as written
- Treasurer’s Report:
Beginning balance: $3,837.95Expended: $286.01Encumbrances: __$89.50Ending balance: $3,551.94- Treasurer’s Report was approved as presented.
- Guest Speakers:
- Dr. Taylor Eighmy, Vice President for Research
- Update on Research Space
- From the external perspective there is concern and emotion – transparency is important
- Texas is very supportive of national research university
- Accountabilities-justify spending money-performance on how we are using their dollars
- SPACE is important-part of portfolio to manage things
- From the internal persepective-focus on the strategic plan which is a state requirement (to see the Strategic Plan, please visit the Provost’s webpage or Dr. Eighmy’s)
- RCM-new management system which is very transparent

- New Business:
- Special Recognitions – Britta Tye (birthdays)
- Handed out Staff Senate shirts
- President’s report – Beverly Pinson
- Britta Tye is working on a SECC campaign- “Pass the Hat” and will present it to the Senate at the October 6, 2010 meeting
- Bruce Bills is representing the staff at the Faculty Senate
- Standing Committe Reports:
- Technology: Good first meeting; Check us out on Facebook and Twitter; added scholarship apps to the website; make sure and check Sharepoint-log in and make sure you have access and check Sharepoint for the minutes and treasurer’s reports each month.
- Bylaws and Constitution: The committee is up and running; going to meet on September 7th
- Communications/Public Relations: December meeting is going to be on the 8th at the Frazier; September 15th will be the first meeting; going to order new promo items; NEO volunteers needed; Still accepting staff morale booster ideas
- Elections: In compliance now
- Grievance: No report
- Issues: Had first meeting and there are 3 pending issues
- Nominations: Turning in final list of committees soon; gender equity and green task force committees are up in the air right now…not sure if they will continue to be committees
- Scholarships: The committee is up and running and the applications are up
