  • Call To Order:

  • Officers Present:

  • Roll Call:
    • 51 senators present.
  • Minutes:
    • Approval of the September 2010 meeting minutes tabled until next meeting.
  • Treasurer’s Report:

    • Treasurer’s Report was approved as presented.
  • Guest Speakers:
    • Denise Tijerina, Foundation for a Better Life, spoke about the Strive for Honor campaign. This campaign includes “Raiders Who Rock” and this year students, faculty, and staff can be nominated.
    • Kara Falkinburg, Texas Tech Club, talked about the club and membership. It is a community club and gives members privileges to 150 Club Corp clubs. For this first year there is a special membership rate of $50/initiation fee and $25/month due.
    • Dr. Mike Shonrock, Vice President Student Affairs and Enrollment, provided complementary copies of “Well Being” written by Tom Rath and Jim Harter to each senator. Dr. Shonrock spoke to us on the five essential elements: Career, social, financial, physical, and community well being. Book provides feedback on how one is doing? Dr. Shonrock was asked about Strengths Quest (SQ); he will get codes for those who would like to do SQ.
  • President’s Report:
    • Beverly presented her September President’s Report. Her purpose for this report is to let us to know how Staff Senate is involved in TTU. Beverly stated that President Bailey has pushed the need for a childcare center into high gear. His staff is keeping her in the loop on what is happening.
  • New Business:
    • Carrie Syma is the Faculty Senate Rep attending Staff Senate meetings. October birthday recognitions.
    • New senators, Suzy Emre and Louise Sanders took the Oath of Office.
    • New Staff Senate coasters were distributed.
    • The hat was passed around for contribution to SECC.
    • 2010-2011 Staff Senate photo was taken.
  • Committe Reports:
    • Technology: No report.
    • By Laws:  No report.
    • Communications and PR:  Britta Tye is proposing we all have an “elevator” speech to give for those who ask about senate. Items for the Staff Insider are due October 15th. Promotional items have been received.  Ashley McPherson is the coordinator for the Meet & Greet. Upper administration has been given a “save the date.” Please invite your Dean/Department Chair. The committee is planning a Staff Appreciation Night at a basketball game and is also working on having something on our website to recognize “shining stars.”
    • Elections:  Committee is meeting October 12th.
    • Grievance:  No report.
    • Issues:  Committee is working on seven issues.  It was stated that some staff who submit issues may only want the senate to have a voice for them in making higher administration aware of  the issue.
    • Nominations: We have two new senators.
    • Scholarships:  Received 25 applications; employment is being verified.
    • Parking: No report.
    • Student Life: Please update your faculty about OP 34.32 and OP 30.18 that deal with test taking and selling educational materials in the classroom. October 11th & 12th is the fall student break.  October 15th-17th is Family Weekend.
    • Strategic Planning: No report.
    • Gender Equity: Will be involved with the childcare center.
  • Announcements:
    • Next Executive Board meeting is October 27, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. in Admin 244.
    • Next Staff Senate meeting is November 3, 2010, 3 p.m. in the SUB Senate Room.
