The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers an endowment for math teachers. It provides a cash award of $200 to two teachers for excellence in mathematics instruction; one at the middle school level and the other at the secondary level. This program prepares experienced doctoral-level science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), graduate students, and secondary STEM teachers to work in an interdisciplinary environment by developing integrated STEM curriculum modules during a series of summer institutes.
The goal of the (MS)2 Understanding by Design program is to prepare and increase the number of highly qualified in-service middle school mathematics and science teachers to become well developed in content knowledge. Through participation in this program, teachers will thrive in an interdisciplinary environment through their experiences in novel learning communities encompassing a team of mathematics and science teachers as well as university STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and education faculty.
The Master of Science in Multidisciplinary Science (MSCI) is a graduate degree program in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. The MSCI degree is designed to meet the professional needs of middle and secondary school science teachers and elementary teachers with a strong science background by expanding their science and math content knowledge.
The Coordinators of STEM Outreach make regular school visits as part of their outreach role. These visits include presentations on mathematical games and motivational talks on careers and college mathematics. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics operates a service-learning program which involves approximately 20 undergraduate students per semester. These undergraduates provide free tutoring, offer enrichment activities and make special presentations to middle school students at local schools. WTMSMP is a five year professional enrichment program designed to enable math teachers who possess a deep conceptual understanding of elementary mathematics to inspire their students to reach higher levels of mathematical achievement.

BEST is an annual robotics competition for middle school and high school students. The competition is held every fall semester; the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at TTU has sponsored the West Texas BEST hub since the inception of the program. Students participate as school teams coached by a teacher from their school. Participation for schools is at no cost other than travel expenses and time investment. Please contact Dr. Richard Gale

Emmy Noether Day is a one day event on Texas Tech's camps designed to provide female high school students with an opportunity to learn about careers in mathematics, science, and engineering.
The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a mid-level robotics competition targeted toward students in grades 9-12 (aged 14-18).
GEAR is a 6-8 week LEGO robotics challenge for elementary and middle school students during which student teams build and program LEGO robots to perform specified tasks. To solve the challenge, students learn engineering skills through a teaming exercise in designing, building, programming, testing, and troubleshooting wheeled LEGO robots that perform and compete on an eight foot by eight foot field.
Texas Tech University hosts FIRST Robotics Team 1817, or the Llano Estacado RoboRaiders. Participation is open to all Middle and High School students. These students will be mentored by Texas Tech Engineering students and professors as well as a group of high school teachers.
Prism is a program for high achieving students who are majoring in Biology or Math at Texas Tech as well as a select group of high school seniors who are eager to learn about the field of biomathematics and want to get the most out of their educational experience.
Run on The Wind will provide young scholars an introduction to the field of wind science and an opportunity to consider wind science as a future academic pursuit.
Shake Hands is a summer residential camp for academically talented students. Students experience university life and attend two classes. The camp includes field trips, and recreational activities.
Science: It's A Girl Thing is a residential camp for girls. The goals are to provide girls with strong role models and dispel myths and misconceptions about science and careers in science. Campers experience university life, hands-on classes and recreational activities.
Designed to provide unique educational and career pathways for individual students, the Seamless Automotive Technology Program allows high-school students to participate in automotive programs without limiting their opportunities to pursue higher education.
Super Saturdays consists of a variety of academic enrichment classes for children in grades K-5. Topics include: forensics, mathematics, photography, geology, art, animal science, biotechnology and MORE. Classes are held on Saturdays on the Texas Tech campus.
The Lubbock Pre-freshman Engineering Program (TexPREP-Lubbock) is an academically intense, mathematics-based, summer enrichment program.
Texas Tech Summer Math Academy offers gifted high school math students an opportunity to collaborate with Texas Tech math faculty and staff in a project-based learning environment each summer. Students will be exposed to many of the different facets of mathematics and learn to apply these through group projects, fun activities, and a research project.
