About the Texas Tech Summer Math Academy
The Texas Tech Summer Math Academy (SuMAc) is a hands-on, intensive, mathematics camp offered to students wanting to further their knowledge and understanding of mathematics and research. In 2013, SuMAc will be a commuter camp; therefore, students will be engaged in research activities from 8AM - 5PM. However, students are responsible for their own transportation to and from campus daily. At SuMAc, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with Texas Tech mathematics faculty and staff through an exploration-based project. During the camp, students will be exposed to many different concepts using mathematics.
Program Requirements
In order to receive the most benefit from SuMAc, each student is required to have a certain basic knowledge of mathematics. Therefore, we require that each student has received, at the time of the camp, an 'A' or 'B' in High School Algebra I and Geometry. Not all students who fulfill these requirements will be accepted. In order to provide personal attention and a valuable research experience, we will only accept a limited number of students. All students must complete the online application and submit one letter of recommendation before the application deadline.
TTU SuMAc is a community outreach initiative of the TTU Department of Mathematics & Statistics; therefore, the participant registration fee has been limited to $50 per student. A limited number of scholarships for financially needy students are available. Please contact Jessica Spott for scholarship information.
How do I Apply?
Simply click HERE or on the "Apply Now!" link above to access the online application. In addition to the online application, one letter of recommendation must be received for the application process to be completed. The SuMAc Committee will review all applications. If a student is accepted to the camp, they will then need to complete and return the final paperwork sent to them by Jessica.
