Overview of Texas Tech University
Texas Tech University enrolled some 28,000 students in the fall of 2003, with over 6,000 of them living in on-campus residence apartments and halls. Like any other community, we experience a certain amount of criminal activity. Because our campus is located in a community of approximately 200,000 people, our students face some additional exposure to crime. Our purpose in bringing this to your attention is not to alarm you, but to alert you.
Texas Tech University is concerned about the protection
of persons and property. We assure you that we place a high priority on
striving to maintain a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.
We cannot, however, guarantee the absolute safety of any one individual.
Personal safety must begin with individual responsibility. With that thought
in mind, we have prepared this information to assist students, faculty,
and staff in protecting themselves, and in so doing, to contribute to
a safer campus environment.
