The Texas Tech Refund Card is The Fastest Way to Your University Refund

Texas Tech has partnered with Higher One, a financial services company that specializes in student refund payment services, to process your refunds FAST.

At some point in your college career, Texas Tech may owe you money if you:

  • Overpay tuition
  • Drop a class or a class is cancelled
  • Have money left over from financial aid
  • Receive a scholarship
  • Credit balance after application of waivers/exemptions

You can have your refunds deposited directly into an existing checking or savings account or choose to have the funds applied to the Texas Tech Refund Card serviced by Higher One that is a Debit MasterCard® and checking account all in one.

You will receive your Texas Tech Refund Card shortly after you enroll for the first time. The card will be mailed to your current address on file with the university. It closely resembles a credit card application...don't throw it away!

  • Easy Refund to your Texas Tech Refund Card (Fastest: next business day)
  • ACH transfer to your existing bank account (Fast: 2-3 business days)

Activate your card and select your refund preference at www.texastech.higheroneaccount.com or

  • Do nothing and a paper check will be mailed to you (approx. 21 days)

Where can I get more information?

Do I have to use this card?

Yes, if you want your money sooner rather than later.

You can have the refund put onto your Texas Tech refund card or deposited to your existing bank account.

No, if you’re cool with waiting a while for a check to arrive in the mail.

If you want a check, make sure we have your correct address. Update your address at www.raiderlink.ttu.edu under the MyTech tab.

Should I activate the card as soon as I get it?

Yes. You could have a refund you don’t expect at some point in your Texas Tech career. Once you make your refund choice, your refund preference will be saved. Set it and forget it.

Do I have to activate a new card every semester?

No. Once you set your refund preference, you're good to go.

What if I don’t have a card?

Email Student Business Services at sbs@ttu.edu.

Include your name, current address and TechID number for verification.  A new one will be requested and mailed to your attention. 

To log into the secure Higher One site and select your refund method, you must have the 16 digits from the card.

I received an email from Higher One stating that my refund card was on the way, but I still have not received it, what should I do?

Please email Student Business Services at sbs@ttu.edu

Include your name, current address and TechID number for verification.  A new one will be requested and mailed to your attention. 

What if I don't want to use the Texas Tech Refund Card?

To have your refund transferred to an existing bank account, you still need to go to Higher One’s secure site www.texastech.easyrefundcard.com and enter the 16 digit number on your card. 

After logging into the site and activating the card, select your refund method. 

Choose Electronic Transfer (ACH) by selecting the ‘I’m not sure, show me all choices.’

Next select ACH Transfer (to other bank).

Please note, you must print, sign and mail in the New ACH Form for the direct deposit method to be completed.  If you prefer, drop the form off at Student Business Services and we will fax the form to Higher One for you.

Why does Higher One require proof of identity?

Due to banking regulations, all banks, including Higher One, are required to properly identify all of their account holders. If Higher One has requested and it is not provided, a hold can be placed on their account and fees may be incurred. Acceptable forms identification are listed online.

Is there a fee for having the funds directly deposited into my account?

No. There is no charge for receiving your refund in this way, although it can take up to 3 business days longer to receive a refund, as compared to the Easy Refund preference. To receive your refund by ACH transfer, you will need to have this option selected, and will also have to complete, print and mail in a paper ACH form. Higher One will send you an email confirmation when they receive your form to notify you that it has been entered into their system.

Are there any fees associated with using the Higher One card? 

Your Texas Tech Refund account is free.

There are no minimum balance requirements and no minimum deposit requirements.

However, some banking services offered by Higher One do carry a fee. View the Fee Schedule.

There are fees for using the Texas Tech Refund Card for:

  • Pin transactions
  • Transferring funds to and from other bank accounts
  • Withdrawing funds from a non-Higher One ATM machine, etc.

Please review the fee schedule referred to above before choosing your refund preference.

The university contracted with Higher One to make refunding money owed to Texas Tech students faster and easier. Higher One is a financial services company that manages refunds for over 200 different universities across the country.
