What is Raider Welcome?

Raider Welcome is the period of time after the opening of the Residence Halls and the throughout the first week of classes. These events are designed to help you get acquainted with campus, with other students, with staff and faculty, and with Texas Tech University's resources, opportunities and expectations.

Do I have to attend Raider Welcome events?

Raider Welcome is not required, but strongly encouraged for all new and returning students. It is the best way to meet people, learn how to navigate your way around campus, and discover campus resources that will help you to be successful here at Tech.

What type of events are going on during Raider Welcome?

Raider Welcome is filled with small and big events to ease a new student's transition, and to welcome back continuing students. Activities have included ice cream socials, lunch/dinners, games/activities, t-shirt give-a-ways, comedian nights, back-to-school shopping opportunity, AlcoholEdu sessions, and community service projects.

Do people really go to Raider Welcome events?

YES! These events have been designed to help you feel more connected with others and with Texas Tech University. Many of the events have become traditions that you don't want to miss!

Why should I go to events?

Go because you want to meet other students. Or go because you want to feel a part of something bigger than yourself. Go because college can be scary and this whole program is about helping you be successful at Tech. Go because you want to learn about what resources and opportunities Texas Tech has to offer. Go because the faculty and academic programs at Texas Tech will change your life. Or go for the food, prizes & free stuff you may find along the way. Whatever your motivation - go to Raider Welcome events. You'll be glad you did!

If I'm a transfer student, what parts of Raider Welcome should I attend?

Transfer students are invited to attend all aspects of Raider Welcome. However, a few events designed specially for transfer students. Check out the Schedule of events or visit the Transfer Connection for more information about our programs for transfer students.

Are parents allowed at Raider Welcome?

Raider Welcome is designed for new students to learn about Texas Tech and the programs and services offered to support student academic success. It is a time to meet new friends and make connections in our Texas Tech community. There are no parent activities offered during Raider Welcome. For parent activities throughout they year, visit Parent and Family Relations.
