Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What are the benefits of attending Red Raider Camp?

Red Raider Camp provides you with the opportunity to start building friendships and transitioning to life as a Red Raider. This student-run and student-led camp is a great way to start your career as a Red Raider.

What is the difference between Red Raider Orientation (RRO) and Red Raider Camp (RRC)?

Red Raider Orientation deals with the fundamental necessities of college (i.e., housing, meal plans, parking, registering for classes, etc.) It is also REQUIRED for all incoming students.

Red Raider Camp is an OPTIONAL program that is more focused on introducing new students to the campus culture and giving them a head start on their college career. At RRC you don't just hear about all the great traditions at Texas Tech, you actually experience them.

Registration

Can Gateway students attend Red Raider Camp?

Red Raider Camp is for admitted students. Once you are admitted to Texas Tech University for the fall semester, you are eligible to attend Red Raider Camp.

I don't see a particular camp session when I try to register.

Each session only has a limited number of spots and are available on a first-come first-serve basis.  If you do not see a camp session when you log in to register, then that camp session is filled to capacity already.

When will I receive confirmation that I am attending camp?

You will receive a registration confirmation email sent to your TTU e-mail account upon registration. Please note that you are not confirmed for camp until we receive your medical release form and your registration fee.

All confirmation and reminder emails about Red Raider Camp will be sent to your TTU email address. Check your email at mail.ttu.edu by logging in with your eRaider username and password.

If you did not receive a confirmation email to your TTU email account, please send an email to redraidercamp@ttu.edu requesting the confirmation be resent.

How much does Red Raider Camp cost? Are there additional fees other than the registration fee?

The registration fee is $225, and covers your lodging, meals, activities, and three camp T-shirts. *Please note: After May 1st, NO refunds will be given, even if you register after May 1st.

Students are responsible for transportation to and from Red Raider Camp.

What if I decide to cancel?

Yes, you can cancel. There are only a limited number of spots for incoming students to attend camp, so it is important that when you sign up for camp, you plan on attending. If you are unable to attend, we ask that you cancel your reservation to open the spot for someone else. We will give refunds until May 1st, for cancellations that are received in writing. If you need to cancel your camp reservation, please fill out this form and fax it to 806-742-0138 or scan a copy and e-mail it to redraidercamp@ttu.edu*Please note: After May 1st, NO refunds will be given, even if you register after May 1, 2018.

What to Expect / Getting Ready

Where do I go to check-in?

Red Raider Camp 2018 will take place on the Texas 4-H Conference Center campus in Brownwood, Texas. Click here for directions. Check in begins at noon on the first day of your camp session. Look out for Camp Staff to direct you to Check-In at the main building.

Can I come a day early?

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide accommodations for early arrival to Red Raider Camp. Please see the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce site for travel and lodging accommodations near the Texas 4-H Conference Center if you need to arrive early.

What do the color groups mean?

Red Raider Campers are divided into five color groups (blue, green, orange, purple and yellow) and will be led by a color group counselor.

During camp, each color group will spend time getting to know each other though Camp Times and Small Group Activities and will compete against the other color groups in spirit competitions, kick-ball and volleyball tournaments and more! If you have any gear (hats, shoes, shorts, etc.) to show off your color group spirit, be sure to bring it with you to camp.

One week prior to your scheduled Red Raider Camp session, you will receive a reminder email with final important information to help you prepare for camp, including your color group assignment.

I didn't get my reminder email.

All confirmation and reminder emails about Red Raider Orientation will be sent to your TTU email address. Check your email at mail.ttu.edu by logging in with your eRaider username and password.

If you did not receive a confirmation email to your TTU email account, please send an email to redraidercamp@ttu.edu requesting the confirmation be resent.

What should I pack to wear?

During each of the three days, campers will wear a white t-shirt provided to you during check-in.  You'll just need to bring some shorts to wear with your awesome new shirts.

We recommend you also pack closed-toe shoes for the ropes course, clothing for the pool (swimsuit, really cool old Hawaiian shirt) and something to get down in at the dance.

And make sure to check out the complete list of packing recommendations.

Is the ropes course mandatory?

The ropes course has a variety of challenges suited for all ability levels. Red Raider Camp uses a "challenge by choice" approach so that each participant measures success by his or her own standards and goals. We as facilitators are able to place participants in leadership roles where they are vital to success of the group completing the activity. Activities like spotting and offering verbal support are instrumental to the group's success.
