2008 Homecoming Committees Description
Parade
This Chair is responsible for updating the Event Book information, securing the Grand Marshall and Judges, preparing informational material for all participants, selecting the parade line-up and inviting Tech administrators, departments and the community to participate. The Chair of the Parade has been elected by Alpha Phi Omega.
Community Service
The Community Service Chair is responsible for choosing a service project, coordinating the day and location of the event, and to work closely with their sponsor. The Chair must choose an event that the entire Tech Campus can be involved in during the week of Homecoming.
Student Organization (S. O.) Sing
This Chair is responsible for all aspects of the Student Organization Contest. This includes revising all related information for the Event Book, choosing an emcee and location, recruiting participation, finding judges, and holding a mandatory information session for all participants. This is a big event and they will be working very closely to the candidates and the student organizations that decide to participate.
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for keeping minutes at all homecoming meetings, keeping attendance, and giving updates at each meeting. This person is also accountable for researching and updating the history of homecoming and keeping a scrap book of all events. This person will work closely with all the Coordinator and Chairs to accurately record all homecoming events.
Spirit Boards
This Chair is responsible for organizing the Sprit Board contest. The Chair is responsible for finding the materials necessary at a discount rate for the Student Organizations who would like to participate in the contest. They must organize an information session to go over all the ground rules of the contest, where and when to drop off the finished Spirit Board. This person is responsible for working with Grounds Maintenance to secure a site for displaying the Spirit Boards.
Banner
This chair is responsible for planning the Banner Contest for Homecoming Week. He / She is responsible for organizing information for the student organizations who wish to participate and to hold an information session for those organizations. The Chair must work with the Student Union and Activities Office to secure a location of the display and day and time. The Banners are to be displayed all through Homecoming week.
Royalty
The Royalty Chair is responsible for updating information for the Event Book, validating all candidates and their sponsoring organizations, securing the crowns, gifts and sashes, and preparing information materials for the candidates. This Chair will work closely with the Chairs of Candidate Showcase and Pep Rally to coordinate the planning of these two events.
Publicity and Promotions
The Publicity and Promotions Chair will work closely with the Homecoming Coordinator, Supervisor, other Chairpersons, the Texas Tech Campus, and the Lubbock Community to publicize events for homecoming through various mediums.
Candidate Showcase
This Chair is responsible for preparing the script for the event, securing outfitters, decorations and hosts, and preparing informational material for all candidates. The Chair must also prepare programs for the audience including candidates’ organizations, sponsors, etc. The Chair will work closely with Royalty to coordinate the planning of these two events.
Merchandising
The Merchandising Chair is responsible for all aspects of the Homecoming t-shirts. This job entails ordering t-shirts, inventory of merchandise, reserving tables for sales of merchandise during orientations and at tables in the Student Union the week prior to and the week of Homecoming, and coordinating people to help with the sale of the t-shirts at summer orientations, Welcome Week, and the weeks prior to Homecoming.
Pep Rally
The Pep Rally Chair is responsible for developing the Pep Rally schedule, arranging groups to participate and perform, and communicating schedule information to all involved parties. This Chair will work closely with the Bonfire Chair to coordinate the planning of these two events. The Chair of Pep Rally has been elected by the High Riders.
Bonfire
The Chair of the Bonfire is an appointed position through the Saddle Tramps. The Saddle Tramps will select their representative to organize the Bonfire and serve as a member of the Homecoming Committee. This person will work closely with the Pep Rally Chair to coordinate the planning of these two events. The Bonfire Chair is responsible for meeting with the Tech Police Department, Tech Fire Department, and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety and updating the Bonfire Manual. The Chair is also in charge of ordering materials and overseeing the building and lighting of the bonfire. Members of the Bonfire Committee are representatives of the Saddle Tramps.
Kickoff
This Chair is responsible for organizing the first event of the homecoming week. The Chair will be responsible for getting all spirit organizations and student organizations to this pep rally at Noon on the first day of Homecoming Week. The Chair is in charge of organizing a schedule for the Tech students and making sure that people are secured to speak at the event.
