My name is Steffan Ihegboro and I am a senior from Arlington, TX. I am currently majoring in Exercise and Sports Sciences with a concentration on Health Promotion while minoring in Biology. I am also planning on pursuing a Graduate Degree as a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. My hope is to one day establish my own physical therapy practice and provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to make a positive impact on the community. I have been a tutor in the TECHniques Center for 3 semesters and I enjoy all aspects of my job. Tutoring one-one-on is a great asset to the TECHniques, allowing tutors to keep up with a student’s progress, learn their strengths & weaknesses, and create lesson plans tailored to their specific learning styles. I especially appreciate the work the counselors do in pairing students with tutors, creating an environment which facilitates teamwork, and keeping everyone motivated. When I first started tutoring I expected to simply help others reach their academic goals, but it proved to be much more. The benefit of working long-term with students allowed me to help them with their organizational, time-management and even interpersonal skills. In turn, they showed me how much a little belief in somebody can go a long ways. The results of my job aren’t only measureable by grades, but they are also evident in the student’s improved work ethic and attitude. Working in the TECHniques center is one of the best decisions I’ve made since coming to Texas Tech and has been a rewarding experience of my college career. |
