Ali Duffy

Assistant Professor - Theatre & Dance

Ali Duffy is an Assistant Professor of Dance at Texas Tech University, where she also teaches in the Honors College. She is pursuing a PhD in Dance from Texas Woman’s University, and holds an MFA in Choreography from UNC Greensboro and a BA in Dance from UNC Charlotte. Since co-founding Flatlands Dance Theatre in 2010, she has artistically directed all of the company’s productions and community outreach initiatives (www.flatlandsdance.org). Recently, her work was selected for presentation at the {254} Dance Festival, Colorado Dance Alliance, and at the Black Box Theatre in North Carolina. She has been commissioned to work with the NC Dances Festival, Danca Nova Company, and the National Dance Alliance, and she received the Kristina Larson Excellence in Choreography award. Ali has toured internationally with Stiletto Entertainment and has performed in American Dance Festival’s Acts to Follow, Central Park’s The Gates, NC Dances Festival, Choreo Collective, and PILOT Festival. Teaching residencies have included Elon University, Troy University, UNC Greensboro, Ballet Lubbock, NC Dance Project, and American College Dance Festival. With NC Dance Theatre, she developed educational curricula for university dance programs. As a dance writer, Ali covers the American Dance Festival at Duke University for World Dance Reviews and her written research has been widely presented at conferences and published internationally. She sits on the DCA National Board of Directors. Texas Tech has honored her with the 2012 Alumni Association New Faculty Award and the 2010 Gloria Lyerla Memorial Research Grant.
