Matthew Schlief is an Assistant Professor of
Scenic Design at Texas Tech University. 
He was previously the Production Manager for the Rice Theatre Program as
well as Lecturer in Theatrical Design (Scenic & Lighting). Before Rice, Matt
was an Assistant Professor of Communications and served as the Scenic,
Lighting, and Sound Designer at Augusta State University in Augusta, GA. He has
also been an instructor at St. John's School, Mt. Pleasant High School, Klein
High School, and the University of Houston.

Matt received his BFA in Theatre from Southwestern University, and his MFA in
Scenic and Lighting Design from the University of Houston. Outside of academia,
Matt is a Company Member of Horsehead Theatre Co., Resident Designer for
Generations A Theatre Co. and Classical Theatre Co., and has designed for Main
Street Theatre, Houston Shakespeare Festival, City Dance Company, West Virginia
Public Theatre, Virginia Musical Theatre, and Brave Dog Theatre.  In 2012 Matt
received the Houston Press Theatre Award for Best Lighting Design for Bloody Bloody
Andrew Jackson.  Over the past 14 years, Matt's design credits include: Bloody Bloody
