Midland SL250 Safety Study Project (2017)

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Odessa District contracted the Texas Tech University Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation (TechMRT) and Trans Tech Lab (TTL) to analyze the crashes along the SL250 corridor in Midland, Texas.

Abilene District Traffic Signal Timing and Capacity Analysis (2017)

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Abilene District contracted the Texas Tech University Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation (TechMRT) and Trans Tech Lab (TTL) to optimize the signal coordination, detection systems and equipment to effectively handle traffic. The overarching goal of this project is to improve the traffic operations of multiple arterial roads in the City of Abilene and bring the traffic signals into an up-to-date standard. pdf logo

Lubbock Comparative Analysis of Design Alternatives for Marsha Sharp Freeway and State Loop 289 (2014)

Amarillo District Modeling Proposed Changes along IH40 and LP335 (2013)

Amarillo Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Policy Board has allocated $6.4 million in 2014 and 2015 to a project along IH-40 from Coulter Street to Helium Road and along Loop 335 from SW 45th Avenue to Amarillo Boulevard (BI-40) to improve capacity, mobility and safety. The existing segment along LP 335 has developed with the expansion of large commercial retail outlets in the area, which has caused the corridor to become congested, especially during peak shopping periods.   • Evaluate projected traffic based upon future development.
  • Model and determine existing LOS and travel times for IH-40 main lanes, frontage roads and intersections and LP 335 from 45th Ave. to Amarillo Blvd. for current and projected traffic.
  • Model and evaluate three proposed conditions for current and projected traffic.
  • Develop signal timing plans to maximize LOS for the segment of LP 335 from 45th Ave. to Amarillo Blvd. and at the IH 40 intersections of LP 335 and Coulter Rd.

Restricted Truck Lane Feasibility Study (2013)

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contracted the Texas Tech University Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation (TechMRT) and Trans Tech Lab (TTL) to conduct a feasibility and capacity analysis of highway segments in the Lubbock, Amarillo, and El Paso Districts to evaluate the feasibility of restricted truck lanes. The ultimate goal of this project was to recommend to TxDOT whether the four locations identified for the study should be subject to truck lane restrictions as well as to indicate what the potential costs in opertional performance restricting lanes to trucks in these locations may be.  pdf logo

US62/82 (Phase 5B) Capacity Analysis (2013)

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Lubbock District contracted the Texas Tech University Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation (TechMRT) and Trans Tech Lab (TTL) to perform a corridor study for a segement US 62/82 in Lubbock. To provide better accessibility for the residents near 66th street, TxDOT proposed two alternatives of the ramp configuration. TTL conducted a simulation based capacity analysis along this section with the aim to identify whether these two alternative layouts would cause potential congestion on both main-lane and frontage roads.  pdf logo

Lubbock State Loop 289 Corridor Study Phase II (2012)

South Loop 289 stretching from the I-27 interchange to Spur 327 is one of the busiest corridors in Lubbock. It traverses the key business center of the city and includes four major interchanges connecting with local arterial streets. This large traffic volume creates increased peak-hour congestion, traffic weaving, and safety concerns. Continue to explore the solutions from Phase I.  pdf logo

Lubbock Signal Timing and Capacity Analysis at North Loop 289 (2011)

Plainview District Freeway Weaving and Ramp Junction Analysis along IH27 (2011)

This project models the traffic flow and conducts weaving and ramp junction analysis along the main lanes of I‐27 between FM 3466 to SH 194. The interchange of IH‐27 and U.S. Hwy 70 was also simulated to analyze the effect of the proposed one‐way frontage road and interchange configuration compared to existing ones with three groups of traffic volumes: existing, projected 2015, and projected 2035.  pdf logo

Plainview District Congestion Mitigation at IH27 and US Hwy 70 (2010)

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) contracted the Texas Tech University Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Transportation (TechMRT) and Trans Tech Lab (TTL) to analyze four solutions to congestion at IH27 and US Highway 70 from a traffic engineering perspective and evaluate the relative merits of each, thus finding the most appropriate countermeasures for congestion along the IH27 frontage roads.  pdf logo
