Basic Construction and Programming

LEGO provides the basic building blocks for creating robotic designs, but by adding sound construction techniques and simple programming skills teachers are able to expand a toy into a model of real-life technology. These lessons will focus on using the Constructopedia that is included with the LEGO Mindstorms Education kit to provide a background on the individual LEGO components and stable construction techniques. Programming skills will focus on manipulating the NXT-G software and teachers will be directed through simple programming skills such as forwards, backwards, and turning movements. Some advanced programming skills such as using the “RANDOM” block and creating “MY BLOCKS” will be introduced as well.
