Dr. Jerry Adams, Principal of New Deal High School, was selected by Raise Your Hand Texas (RYHT) as one of over 100 public school leaders in Texas to attend the Leadership Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education prior to the start of the 2010-11 school year. RYHT describes itself as "a grassroots non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization made up of business and community leaders, taxpayers, and concerned citizens, all with a single focus: increasing student achievement in Texas."

Dr. Adams participated in the "Redesigning High Schools for Improved Instruction" program in Boston, Massachusetts. According to RYHT, "This program provides the theories, knowledge, tools, and best practices necessary to redesign high schools so they can become powerful learning environments for students and adults."

"Attending the Harvard Leadership Program was a powerful learning experience that has already paid off through several of the initiatives we have been introducing on our campus to continue to enhance college, career, and life readiness for our students," said Dr. Adams.

New Deal High School has been a STEM Academy since 2007 and works closely with the Texas High School Project and the Texas Tech University T-STEM Center to provide all students with cutting edge skills for the 21st century with the goal of graduating students who are college-ready, career-ready, and life ready. Since 2007, New Deal High School has earned multiple Recognized and an Exemplary accountability rating and has accumulated 26 Gold Performance Acknowledgements from the Texas Education Agency for such measures as College Readiness and Recommended High School Plan graduates. Recently, New Deal High School was selected as a Higher Performing School by the National Center for Educational Achievement.
